When was the last time you checked to see if the professionals you rely on for your healthcare are members in good standing with the appropriate regulatory college or association?  We visit our dentist, our family doctor, and maybe an optometrist, physiotherapist, massage therapist or chiropractor and we assume that the professionals we count on for our healthcare are in fact members in good standing with the appropriate regulator college or association. This is true in most cases but what happens when it is not?

If you attend Hamilton Physiotherapy clinic  this week for example and pay for a dozen physiotherapy sessions to treat your sore back you should confirm that your physiotherapist is registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.  You can do this by visit their website and searching the public register for your Physiotherapist.  If your Physiotherapist is not registered with the college you cannot be sure that they have the appropriate education to use the title “Physiotherapist”, they may not have the appropriate insurance to protect you, and your insurer will not pay for your treatment and will not reimburse you if you have already paid out of pocket. Please take a few minutes and confirm that your Physiotherapist is registered with the college.
